Learning trail on peat bog Goreljek
Peat bogs are a very rare and vulnerable habitat in Slovenia. From a biological and ecological point of view, however, they are fascinating and unique. Peat bogs are constantly growing, and plants thrive on them that are not found anywhere else. The most important are different types of peat mosses, but we can also see small carnivorous sundew flowers and different mosses.
The bogs on Pokljuka are the southernmost bogs in Europe that are still preserved. A visit to the peat bog Goreljek educational trail will explain many interesting things that you may not have known yet. The circle route is about one kilometer long and has five learning points with information boards.
There are wooden platforms and a bridge on the wet parts that enable safe walking on dry land.
